Each AKC-recognized breed falls into one of seven group classifications. The seven groups are Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding. Group clubs are open to owners of all breeds from one of the seven AKC groups. Group clubs are eligible to hold shows, obedience trials, and performance events for their breeds. The Central Kentucky Herding Group Club is a club for the owners of herding breed dogs. The AKC recognizes the following herding breeds: Australian Cattle Dog, Australian Shepherd, Bearded Collie, Belgian Malinois, Belgian Sheepdog, Belgian Tervuren, Border Collie, Bouvier des Flandres, Briard, Canaan Dog, Cardigan Welsh Corgi, Collie, German Shepherd Dog, Old English Sheepdog, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Polish Lowland Sheepdog, Puli, and Shetland Sheepdog. Of course many of our members have other breeds as well and some of our performance events are open to other breeds/all breeds as the AKC allows. If you own a herding dog or are interested in learning more about herding dogs we invite you to join us. For a membership application, click here. We generally meet once a month with many of these meetings being 'working meetings' where you may work livestock with your dog. To find out the date and location of our next meeting, click here. We encourage participation of herding dogs in all AKC events open to herding breeds including conformation, tracking, obedience, rally, and more!
